No Need to Take Me Away

I said I wanna touch the earth
I wanna break it in my hands
I wanna grow something wild and unruly

I wanna sleep on the hard ground
In the comfort of your arms
On a pillow of bluebonnets
In a blanket made of stars

Oh it sounds good to me I said

Cowboy take me away
Fly this girl as high as you can
Into the wild blue
Set me free oh I pray
Closer to heaven above and
Closer to you closer to you

~ Dixie Chicks: Cowboy Take Me Away

A couple of nights ago Jason and I were laying in bed and talking about our upcoming crazy travel schedule. When we got around to the concept of Christmas and where we wanted to spend it, I asked if he recalled a conversation we had had for the past couple of years.

Me: “Remember when we used to talk about going to the Outer Banks in the winter? Renting a house on a quiet beach and just enjoying ourselves? Aren’t we a lot closer to them now? THAT’S what I want to do! Let’s drive to the Outer Banks! Doesn’t that sound lovely??”

J: “You mean, you want to walk on the beach everyday?”

Me: “YES!”

J: “And you want to curl up in front of the fireplace every night with a beautiful glass of wine?”

Me: “YES, I DO!”

J: “How about sit on a big deck and read your book or do a little writing while the dog lays at your feet?”

Me: “YES, please.”

J: “And I bet you want to take blankets out in the sand and watch the sunset in the evening.”

Me: “I LOVE that you know me so well!”

J: “Well how about instead of driving to the Outer Banks and renting a house, that we just stay home! We can walk on the beach everyday, you can light the fireplace as many times as you want, we have lots of wine, you can choose from not one, but TWO big decks to sit on, and the sun sets here every single night!”

It’s about here that I started laughing so hard my eyes hurt.

Me: “I kind of forgot that we live here.” Still laughing.

J: As he is patting me on the head. “And if you are a really good girl, I will even let you wear a sweater.”
