Let’s take a little trip down where we used to go
It’s way beyond the strip, a place they call your soul
We’ll sit down for a while and let the evening rollDon’t worry about the time, we’ll find a place to stay
The people ’round here seem familiar in some way
Look kind of like we did before we got so coldAnd in the air the questions hang
Will we get to do something?
Who we gonna end up being?
How we gonna end up feeling?
What you gonna spend your free life on?
Free life~Natalie Maines: Free Life
Yesterday was an unremarkable day. Yet yesterday was a remarkable day.
I drove to the gym in the early morning as the stunningly simple sun rose above the Chesapeake Bay. There were seven ships defining the horizon. The windows in the Jeep were down and the air felt crisp and cool and smelled like salt.
I lifted heavy things. I feel strong.
I texted my husband on the way home – Beautiful morning! Beautiful sunrise! I like living here. Thank you! 🙂
The house is “ours”. It is so different than any other I have ever owned. There is newness and quirkiness. There are big windows and doors that open to the world. There is no history here. There is color! It feels like the beach. It feels modern. It feels like us. I walk in and I feel free.
Work was hard and critical. I made progress. I wrote pretty things and built shiny objects. My brain was as tired as my body.
I sat outside overlooking our backyard. Our big expanse of an empty yard. It begs for running; it screams “be free”.
Iona paced and then she slept.
Jason came home and I kissed him hard. Harder. We raise our steady hands and we go for a ride. Our free life.
Let’s fall in love again with music as our guide
We’ll raise our ready hands and let go for the ride
Down into unknown lands where lovers meet and hideWe got these lives for free, we don’t know where they’ve been
We don’t know where they’ll go when we are through with them
The starlight of the sun, the dark side of the moonAnd in the air the questions hang
Will we get to do something?
Who we gonna end up being?
How we gonna end up feeling?
What you gonna spend your free life on?
Free life, free life, free life
